Journal 1: Introducing Beit Maya

Beit Maya is inspired by my mother Maya’s spirit and the endless beauty and love she poured into our home. Anyone who knew her, knew she had a gift for making every space feel so vibrant and alive. Our table was always dressed with flowers, colour, and craft, and every corner carried her special touch. Even though we lived in London, our Arab roots were always present. Through art, food, scent, and gorgeous home objects, she naturally kept our heritage close, reminding us that home was not just a place, but something we could always return to through the senses, and that stories were told through more than just words.

My mama moved through life between East and West, as did I. We were shaped by both worlds. Yet, it was our motherland, Lebanon, that always held the deepest pull on us. For me personally, Levantine creativity has always been my greatest inspiration, shaping me and guiding me in so many ways. From that same in-between world, Beit Maya was born - crafted between East and West, just as she was and just as I am. With the candles hand poured in Grasse, then shipped to Amman, Jordan where every last detail was designed… From the Levantine olive wood lids made by artisans in Amman, to the UV lasering on our gorgeous white vessels, to the packaging and printing of every last detail. It carries her essence but also my own, drawing inspiration from the Levant at large, from its lands and people, its scents and textures, its artistry and heart.

Over the last few years, I’ve felt, both in myself and my peers, a growing yearning to reconnect more deeply with our roots. Beit Maya is an ode to that pull. As our lands continue to face turmoil and uncertainty, I’ve witnessed a powerful wave of love, pride, and longing emerge amongst us. I have witnessed a shared desire to remember where we come from, to celebrate it and, most importantly, to keep it alive.

Our first collection begins with scent, which is what I find to be the most nostalgic and transportive of all the senses. Our first way of storytelling, each candle we’ve created celebrates a corner of the Levant. From the sweetness of figs ripened under the Jordanian sun, to the timeless rose of Damascus, the fresh mint of Palestine, and the sacred cedars of Lebanon, every fragrance carries a piece of home and a reminder of how much layered richness lives within our region.
